After being laid-off from my engineering job it took about 4yrs to get back on track with a new job. Relocating the family and caring for them, wife and 2 young boys, racing had to take a back seat for those 4 yrs. Now pushin 40yrs old, I am gettin back into the swing of things. I've decided to make a run at the Southern Classics in the Single Speed class. So far my season is progressing well at about the half-way point. I've also managed to reach 1 of my 2 goals, which I thought would not happen this year...That goal was to be crowned as the South Carolina State Single Speed Champion! Yes, I managed to pull it off, even after having a bad day on race #1. Race #2 I dug deep to pull it off. I couldn't have done it without my Polar cycling computer, now about 9yrs old! I was worried that I was going to crack, but being able to watch my HR, and knowing my LT, I was able to monitor my efforts pushing the red-line as needed to place me in the l! ead. I ended-up in 2nd on the day, but more importantly it gave me the needed points to pass the previous race leader, while I was also able to put a huge time gap on him as well at over 2 minutes! I can only hope that my Polar will keep on ticking as it has, but it has taken a ton of abuse through all the 24hr racing in rain, mud, sun, and even snow! I fear that one day it is just gonna stop. I currently use my Polar both on my single speed mountain bike with a speed sensor, and my road bike with both the speed and cadence sensors along with the original chest strap! Yes, I said original! I've changed batteries numerous times in both the watch and the sensors, but the original chest strap is still working...simply amazing!!!
