So with my new year I decided I wanted to accomplish two things for my aging, soon to be 42 year old body. First, lose at least 25 pounds and get back to a weight where I was 15 years ago. Second, I wanted to compete in a 5k and finish under 30 minutes. Diet alone from the previous year had me already down 40 pounds, but the last 25 was proving difficult without the addition of serious cardio. I have never been tiny, but I had run in high school 25 years ago and knew that if I could simply run at least 3 miles, 3-4 times a week, weight would simply come off. What I quickly learned though was training at 6,900 feet, combine with 15 plus years of a sedentary lifestyle that got me overweight to begin with, I needed help. I research heart rate monitors and determined that the FT60 with its history and training programs was ideal for my goals. I had set a goal of running in the Utah Valley Marathon on June 12th, starting my quest in February. I! was able to push my training based on the feedback and based on the training programs from polarpersonaltrainer.com, not only was I able to finish in 29:30, but I won second place in the Clydesdale division, or those of us over 200 lbs. I have also lost that 25 pounds and have only 12 more to go to hit my final target weight. Now my goals are to continue to improve my time with additional 5k's and also at the end of the summer compete in a 10k, finishing in less than 1 hour. Who knows, by then I might be finally out of the Clydesdale division.
